Standishgate

The main road running through the very centre of the town of Wigan is Standishgate, now pedestrianised and lined with shops, banks and arcade entrances.

The architecture is varied, as you can see from the image below, each building is noticeably different from the ones on either side.

A slight slope on Standishgate takes you from the lowest part at the junction with Crompton Street and Mesnes Street right up to Market Place.

The entrance to the Makinson Arcade faces the entrance to the Grand Arcade as the road opens up a little into Market Place.
