Red bricks form a massive part of the architecture of the town of Wigan and Tower Buildings on Wallgate is a fine example of such work.
The craftsmanship is outstanding, with the red bricks and terracotta tiles adding to a real sense of solidity and structure.

The central tower area seems more akin to a cotton mill, but it adds to the special feel of the place.

Tower Buildings are quite close to the other station in Wigan, Wigan North Western, which serves the West Coast line connecting London with Glasgow and Edinburgh - the entrance to the station is immediately opposite.

The last red brick building going down the hill is not part of the Tower Buildings, but is the Swan and Railway pub with the railway bridge right in the distance.
